Welcome to Gremlins Curling Season 2011/2012

Dear Curler

Welcome to the start of the new season’s curling with the Gremlins. I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer holidays and are looking forward to getting back on the ice for more coaching and games at Murrayfield. Last year was a great success with many new curlers continuing to attend Gremlins after trying our sport on the back of Olympic media coverage.

I’d like to welcome back all the new curlers that started last year who can look forward to honing their skills and playing more games. I’d also like to encourage the more experienced Gremlins who may now also be playing Junior Games to continue with the sessions as we will continue with the highly successful Skills Awards. As well as a Club for starting new curlers off, Gremlins is important for those making the transition to Gogar Park Young Curlers. Most curlers at this stage should come to both if they (and their parents) can! As “Senior Gremlins” they can also look forward to competitive matches at Murrayfield and perhaps other rinks.

The Coaching Sessions will start on Sunday 2nd October 2011. A full list of dates is enclosed on the separate sheet. All sessions start at the earlier time of 9.00am and will finish at approximately 10.00am. The charge will remain at £2.00 per session payable on the day, all of which goes directly to club funds. Please arrive at 8.45 for registration and warm up.

Finally I’d like to welcome and encourage any new curlers out there. We’d love you to try our amazing sport and see if you like it. If you know of anyone that might be interested, please pass them this information or give me their details and I’ll get in touch. Remember the first session for new curlers is FREE. Some curlers start as young as 8, others start in their early teens. There are groups for all ages and abilities. It’s fun and very friendly.

For new curlers, please note:
Clothes should be warm, and comfortable; e.g. track suit / jogger trousers, sweat shirts. You can get quite warm curling, but best to bring a few extra layers to begin with.
Footwear should be very clean, and should not be worn to the Ice Rink. Trainers are normally ideal. The coaches can advise you on this.
All other equipment is provided – stones, brushes, etc.

For parents, please note:
Coaches will be responsible for your child’s safety during the coaching sessions. We expect parents or a responsible adult to be present at the end of the coaching session.

We are always in need of helpers for the sessions. If you or other family members are able to help in any way, please let me know. Even if it’s just to hold a brush and catch stones at the other end, all help would be appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you all this season

Yours sincerely

Andrew Barr
